New Waterfront Mixed-Use Development on Daniel Island Planned

Daniel Island has received a proposal for a new 22-acre development along the waterfront.  The project, called River Landing Village, will be at the end of River Landing Drive and Pier View Street.  It will be a mixed-use development wiht 300 condominiums and townhomes, two new public-access piers, and commercial retail space and restaurants along the Wando River.

The Development Team

East West Partners is heading up the project. They are a Colorado real estate company that specializes in upscale residential developments (Denver, Vail Valley and Snowmass).  Recent projects that East West Partners built in the Lowcountry include the newest Tides condominium in Mount Pleasant, and the Gadsden and One Venue Range projects in Charleston.

According to the company’s mission statement they “intend to build a collection of buildings, scaled appropriately for a walkable, village-scale setting, that encompasses residential offerings, completed by retail and amenities where residents and patrons can spend time on the waterfront.”

The New Daniel Island Development

The first phase of the River Landing Village will be a development of about 5.5 acres along the waterfront. It will include 50 to 60 residences, and approximately 14,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, according to Miller Harper, managing partner for East West Partners South Carolina.  The completion date expected in 2021.  The first phase will include what planners call a “village core.”

Harper told the Post & Courier that “it’s one of the last great pieces of waterfront on the island.  It will be a coastal-inspired destination and neighborhood.  The collection of buildings will be scaled appropriately to those on River Landing Drive.  Think small-to-medium-size and not large buildings.” Harper said the rest of the project “will be market dependent.  Our intent is to meet market demand.”

“Daniel Island is an incredible community,” he continued. It’s a great place to live, work, and play.  The residents of Daniel Island take great pride in where they live.  We are careful to take the same level of care when designing a project within this community…We have assembled a world-class team of design professionals that have spent an inordinate amount of time working on a design that we believe will only enhance the wonderful community that we are building within.”

It will take an estimated 6 to 12 years to complete all five phases of the development.  The exact timeline will depend on market demand, with the initial groundbreaking to begin within 6 months.
