Charleston metropolitan area economy is the fastest growing in the state of South Carolina, according to a 2015 federal report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (bea.gov).  The tri-county area of Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties had an increase of 14.8 percent in its gross domestic product (GDP)during the last five years (2010 to 2015). West Ashley’s hopes to redevelopment along the Sam Rittenberg Boulevard corridor may be gaining some traction. The Post & Courier reports that the Charleston City Council has plans in September to approve a special tax district to raise as much as $69 million for road work, drainage and other improvements along the Sam Rittenberg Boulevard corridor.
